Recycling

A food collection service that takes food waste and recycles it as fertiliser for crop production, eliminating the need for expensive and environmentally un-friendly landfill.

Every year the UK generates millions of tons of food waste from every part of the food supply chain - food manufacturing, processing, retailing and catering. Approximately, 100m tons of commercial food waste is produced annually with just over 65% going to landfill

However, this is about to change. EU directives are driving new Government initiatives and imposing strict measures to divert certain types of waste - in particular biodegradable food - from landfill, and increase recycling.

In the UK, a target has been set to reduce the amount of biodegradable waste going to landfill by 8m tons by 2013.

Anaerobic Digestion - How we turn food waste into energy

Degradation of food waste produces methane as a natural part of decomposition. We capture and clean this methane gas in a specially designed storage tank which is designed to encourage the decomposition of the waste.

The methane produced is then used as a fuel to produce electricity which we sell to local businesses.

The remaining decomposted food waste is a rich fertiliser and is used by local farmers to grow their crops. It is so rich in nutrients it is no longer classed as a waste but a useful fertiliser certified to PAS110 allowing you to claim 100% recycling rates on your food waste.

EU Landfill Directives
  • By 2010 we must reduce biodegradable municipal waste land filled to 75% of that produced in 1995.
  • By 2013 we must reduce biodegradable municipal waste land filled to 50% of that produced in 1995.
  • By 2020 we must reduce biodegradable municipal waste land filled to 35% of that produced in 1995.

We will help YOU to do your part in reducing the amount of food YOU throw away.

We will produce a monthly report showing how many tonnes of food waste YOU have diverted from landfill.

We will tell you about the recycling process.
You can even purchase the finished soil conditioner at a special discounted rate.
